There used to be a gallery at this location, of digital photographs that were downloaded from peoples computers, using the peer to peer file sharing program Kazaa. Usually these people had no idea their images were available to the internet. These images provided an interesting insight into a number of peoples lives, and also into what some people are interested in taking photos of. It included lots of holiday snaps, lots of cars and some car shows, porno, a couple of gory photos, party shots, flowers, breast feedings, pajama parties, and other material.

However due to the privacy invasion side of the exhibition, I have decided to take the gallery down. Some have emailed me saying the gallery was a good thing because "Disabusing the audience of notions of privacy is a public service." While I do agree with this, I think I don't need the gallery itself to educate, and the exhibition is potentially harmful to those in the photos.

There were 363 images in the first gallery, and 405 in the second gallery. The pictures below are a small selection.

Original text with the exhibitions

This found art collection is obtained by searching for "dcp" on a person to person file sharing network. As most digital cameras save their pictures with a file name patterned "dcp_1234.jpg" this method finds pictures from these cameras that are publically shared, usually by accident. By doing this an interesting class of found art can be collected. This is a snapshot of what people are taking digital photos of. (This technique is the image analog of Napster Nuggets).

Be warned some of these images are pornographic. Do not view this exhibition if you are under 18, or under the legal age for viewing pornographic or sexual images in your area. Do not view this exhibition if you find pornographic or sexual images offensive.

This second edition is put together at the insistence of close friends who need more voyeurism in their lives... be warned, I consider this exhibition to have even more offputting grotesqueness than the original. Lots of cars, a fair amount of scary porn, and some surprises.
