Artist description
This band was formed late in 1999 as a side project to Negative Eh (now Nova Scotia). It was intended to be a live only band and as an outlet of me to play saxophone. Originally called the ESG Ensemble the first lineup consisted of me, Alex Greenhough and Richard Whyte, soon followed by Dean Brown (Dean and Richard are the other two thirds of Nova Scotia, and Alex later played in Nova Scotia, briefly). The bands line up kept changing, including Simon O'Rourke and Lauren Brewer on drums, Rhys and ozi bs: on bass, Guy Nicholls on trumpet (even though he has not yet performed live with the band) plus various others for short period, many of these people have continued to play with me on and off. Eventually the name changed to the Rick Jensen Trio/Quartet whatever and most recently the line up has settled to include Sam Stephens on bass and Smiley on drums. Also Richard still makes occasional appearances. The Rick Jensen Trio is about moving as one, energy and freedom. It's three people (or however many, but I prefer the trio form) who work as a unit, and for the pure love of this music. This band has become the most regular musical concern of mine and has grown in ways I never expected. I couldn't be happier with the way it's gone. I thank all who have been involved with my music and have indulged my whims and thank you to all those who've taken the time to listen. What's the music about? You're going to have to decide for yourself.
